Bars

Parrotfish sells safe synthetic shampoo bars to help make your transition to a plastic-free personal care routine effortless. Just lather it in your hands and then run them through your hair. It's that easy! A synthetic ingredient does not speak to the quality or safety of an ingredient; it just means something that is not found and harvested directly from nature.

For most people, all-natural shampoos have an adjustment period, ranging from a few days to weeks or even months. Your hair is accustomed to having its oils stripped from the use of commercial shampoo, and all-natural shampoos are leaving those oils so your scalp will create a build-up. Because of the lengthy adjustment period all-natural shampoo bars have, we wanted to make your plastic-free switch one that didn't take a month to adapt by formulating a safe-synthetic shampoo bar by using Sodium Coco Sulfate.

Although, if an all-natural shampoo sounds like something you might be interested in, check out our Rosemary Apple Cider soap bar that can double as a shampoo. Apple cider vinegar is rich in amino acids, vitamins, and mineral salts helping to restore the natural pH balance of hair and skin, keeping moisture in and irritants out.

Our Argan Cleanse bar is excellent for normal to dry hair. This wonderfully sudsy and moisturizing argan oil shampoo will help prevent dryness, reduce frizziness, and boost shine. However, if you need a shampoo bar that works better for normal to oily hair, our Peppermint Cleanse bar is the one for you. The anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties of the peppermint leaf essential oil will soothe an itchy scalp while absorbing excess oil - without using harmful detergents.

There are two ways to use a shampoo bar: rub the bar directly on your hair, or lather it in your hands. The biggest difference is that you might feel that have to rinse more thoroughly. After you're done, store the bar on a soap saver out of direct contact with water in order to prolong its life.

Our shampoo bars are created with Sodium Coco Sulfate, a natural cleanser from coconut oil. SCS sulfate has a natural balance of fatty acids that your hair and scalp crave. We also enrich our shampoo bars with other natural oils for your hair's optimal rich acid profile. It is not the same ingredient as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate with a different name designed to mislead consumers. High concentrations of SLS are commonly found in floor cleaners, detergents, and many commercial shampoos due to their effectiveness in stripping and removing oils.

Yes! Our shampoo bars are safe for daily shampooing or chemically treated hair.

Many people with colored hair are told to stay away from sulfates; however, not all sulfates are created equal. Sulfates must be balanced, as they play a vital role in removing dirt and dead skin cells while producing a sudsy lather.

Make sure your soap dish or shower caddy has drainage, so your bar isn't sitting in a pool of water. There should be enough space for air to circulate at the bottom of your bar. If you let it sit in water for too long, it will become soft and minimize the life of your bar.

Yes! Parrotfish bars are made in North Carolina.

Steamers

A shower steamer is like a bath bomb for your shower! The steamer will release aroma as it disolves and help awaken your senses and infuse your shower with a spa-like experience.

Each steamer will last the length of one shower. Take a steamer into the shower with you in a location that will receive sprinkles from your shower head. Avoid placing it in the direct water stream, as it will dissolve quickly. Theey are not designed to go in your bath or directly on the skin.

Although your steamers will not expire, the scent can dissipate over time if not kept in an airtight container. If kept in our paper tubes, the fragrance will be optimal for up to 4 months, and if kept in an airtight container, it can last up to a year.

Yes! Our shower steamers are perfectly safe for your drain. Unlike bath bombs, shower steamers do not contain an overabundance of oil. Oil can be bad for your drain because they solidify as they cool, hardening in the curves or elbows of pipes as it dries. On the contrary, baking soda – a main ingredient in our shower steamers – is beneficial to your drain.

All of our steamers have the same main ingredients – baking soda, citric acid, corn starch, witch hazel and essential oil. However, our eucalyptus tea tree steamer has added spinach powder to give them their green hue, and our pomelo posy steamers have added rose clay to make them pink.

The containers are made of 100% virgin pulp paper and are reusable, recyclable and biodegradable.

Sustainiblity

Parrotfish use boxes that are 95% post-consumer and 5% post-industrial content and are fully recyclable and biodegradable. The tissue paper is printed with soy-based ink, and the tissue is completely acid-free and FSC Certified.

For a reduced carbon footprint, our products are shipped with USPS, using existing postal routes. On average, this will have a smaller carbon footprint than driving to the store.

Shipping charges for your order will be calculated and displayed at checkout. Free U.S. shipping is provided for orders over $45.

We offer international shipping; however, because we are a small business without warehouses overseas, international shipping tends to be more expensive.

Free local delivery is available in Raleigh, NC and occasionally in New Bern, NC, depending on availability.
