Is Argan Oil Good for Curly Hair?

Curly hair requires special care to maintain its health and manageability. Argan oil, known for its rich nutrient profile and numerous benefits, has become a popular choice for those with curly locks. This article explores the various advantages of using argan oil on curly hair, how to incorporate it into your hair care routine, and tips for selecting the best argan oil products.

Essential Nutrients in Argan Oil: A Hair Care Treasure

Argan oil is a rich source of essential nutrients that your hair will love (argan oil benefits for hair). It includes:

  • Vitamin E
  • Minerals
  • Antioxidants
  • Ferulic Acid
  • Carotenoids
  • Phytosterols
  • Polyphenols
  • Unsaturated Fatty Acids: Oleic acid, Alpha-linolenic acid, Palmitic acid, Stearidonic acid, Linoleic acid, and Myristic acid.

Superior Stability: Resistance to Oxidation

Depending on the extraction process, argan oil is more resistant to oxidation than olive oil. This stability, coupled with its high vitamin E and linoleic acid content, makes it rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants are crucial for protecting cells from damage and combating early signs of ageing by acting as anti-free radical agents.

Argan Oil for Curly Hair: Intense Moisturisation

Long-Lasting Moisture

Argan oil is a fantastic choice for curly hair because of its intense moisturising properties. It forms a non-evaporating layer around the hair, sealing in moisture until it's washed out. This makes it one of the most powerful and long-lasting moisturisers available.

Deep Penetration

The small molecules in argan oil penetrate deep into the hair's cortex, providing effective moisturisation from within the hair shaft. Its rich content of antioxidants and vitamins is easily absorbed, ensuring your hair remains healthy and hydrated.

Benefits of Argan Oil for Curly Hair

Natural Hydration

  • Softer Hair: Argan oil naturally hydrates curly hair, making it softer and reducing roughness.
  • Moisture Lock: It moisturises dry curls and nourishes them with essential minerals and fatty acids, resulting in soft and healthy hair.

Enhanced Elasticity

  • Breakage Prevention: Argan oil penetrates the hair shaft and enhances elasticity, which helps prevent breakage—a crucial benefit for curly hair.

Scalp Nourishment

  • Promotes Growth: This oil is highly nourishing to the scalp, enhancing hair growth and maintaining a healthy scalp environment.

Improved Manageability

  • Smoothness Restoration: Argan oil is excellent for taming uncontrollable and unmanageable curls, restoring smoothness and making them more manageable.

Deep Conditioning

  • Repair and Strengthen: The natural antioxidants in argan oil strengthen hair by repairing damage. Vitamin E, a key component, is particularly effective in treating curly hair, helping to restore, renew, and repair damage caused by heat, chemicals, and other harmful agents.

Protection from Damage

  • Shield Against Elements: Argan oil helps protect curly hair from damage caused by sun exposure, hair colour treatments, blow drying, curling irons, and styling products. This gentle protection ensures curls remain resilient and healthy despite environmental stressors.

How to Use Argan Oil for Curly Hair

  1. Warm the Oil: Take 4-5 drops of argan oil and rub it between your palms to warm it up.
  2. Apply to Damp Hair: Run your oil-covered fingers through freshly showered, damp hair.
  3. Scalp Massage: Gently massage the oil into your scalp to hydrate and eliminate dandruff.
  4. Regular Use: Repeat this procedure 2-3 times a week to achieve soft, shiny, and healthy-looking curls.

Tips for Buying the Right Argan Oil for Curly Hair

  1. Check the Label: Many products claim to contain argan oil but often mix it with cheaper synthetic materials. Ensure you read the label carefully.
  2. Look for Pure Extract: Invest in argan oil that is pure and genuine. Although it may be expensive, the benefits are worth it.
  3. Natural Shampoo and Conditioner: While using argan oil, switch to natural shampoos and conditioners, such as those offered by Parrotfish, which are infused with argan oil for added benefits.
  4. Check Expiry Dates: Always read the expiry date before purchasing to ensure the product's effectiveness.
  5. Be Informed: Make informed choices by being a smart and aware consumer.

Should I Use Argan Oil on Curly Hair?

Yes, argan oil is highly beneficial for curly hair. It penetrates the hair shaft, enhancing elasticity and preventing breakage. It nourishes the scalp, promoting hair growth, and is excellent for taming uncontrollable and unmanageable curls, making them smoother and more manageable.

Should I Oil My Curly Hair Every Day?

The frequency of oiling curly hair depends on your hair type. Highly porous hair may benefit from more frequent oiling, up to two to three times a week. Less porous hair retains moisture longer and can go longer between oiling sessions. Adjust according to your hair's needs.

Is It OK to Wet Curly Hair Every Day?

Wetting your curly hair daily is fine, but frequent washing can strip natural oils, making it hard to retain moisture. Instead, rinse and condition more often and shampoo less frequently. This helps maintain hydration and keeps your curls healthy and moisturised.

Argan oil is a versatile and effective solution for curly hair, offering hydration, enhanced elasticity, and protection from damage. By understanding how to use it properly and choosing high-quality products, you can ensure your curls remain soft, shiny, and healthy. Whether you're dealing with dryness, breakage, or unmanageable curls, argan oil can be a transformative addition to your hair care regimen.

Actually Works!

This is the only purple Shampoo I have tried that’s actually able to lighten my hair! I have thick hair in a darker blonde color, and normally after using purple shampoo it looks the same as before. With this one, my hair stylist noticed my hair was lighter, and I didn’t even bring it up! And yes, I follow instructions!

Good product

I purchased the purple shampoo and conditioner bars & am very pleased with the results. It has definitely toned down the yellowing of my gray hair and does not dry my hair out. I will be ordering again for sure.

Great product

I color my hair and have tried many products that deal with toning down the orange, but nothing has worked as well as the purple bars for shampoo and conditioner. My hair has never looked or felt better. I love this product.
