Purple Shampoo On Dry Hair

If you’ve ever wondered about the best way to use purple shampoo or even considered applying it to dry hair, you’re not alone. There’s a lot of information out there, and it can be tricky to figure out what really works. Purple shampoo is a fantastic tool for keeping brassy tones at bay, but knowing how to use it correctly is key to achieving the best results.

In this guide, we’ll clear up some common misconceptions and share tips on how to make the most of your purple shampoo routine.

Can You Put Purple Shampoo on Dry Hair?

Many people have wondered if applying purple shampoo to dry hair might enhance its toning effects. However, it’s important to clarify that purple shampoo should only be used on wet hair. The reason behind this is that while dry hair is indeed more porous and may absorb products more readily, it doesn’t distribute the shampoo evenly across the strands.

This uneven absorption can lead to patchy, inconsistent toning, which is far from the desired result. The idea that using purple shampoo on dry hair will improve toning is a common internet myth, but it’s one you should definitely avoid. To achieve the best results, always apply purple shampoo to wet hair, allowing it to work its magic uniformly for a smooth, even tone.

So What Is the Best Way to Use Purple Shampoo?

Using purple shampoo effectively requires a few key steps to ensure your hair looks its best without unintended side effects. Here’s a guide to help you get it right:

  • Prep Your Hair: Before applying purple shampoo, thoroughly soak your hair with water. Adding a small amount of conditioner to the ends can help prevent the porous tips from absorbing too much pigment, which can lead to uneven coloring.
  • Follow the Instructions: Always adhere to the directions provided on your purple shampoo’s packaging. Typically, you shouldn’t leave it on your hair for more than five minutes. Leaving it on too long can result in staining that might linger for weeks or even months and can also cause dryness.
  • Dealing with Overuse: If you’ve accidentally overdone it, don’t panic. Purple shampoo acts as a stain, so it will fade over time with regular washing. The more often you cleanse with your usual shampoo, the quicker the purple tones will fade.
  • In Case of Severe Staining: For those with very light, highlighted hair, overuse of purple shampoo might require a more intense solution. In some cases, a professional in-salon color correction involving bleach may be necessary to remove stubborn pigment.

What happens if I put purple shampoo on dry hair?
There’s a common misconception that applying purple shampoo to dry hair enhances its toning effect. However, dry hair absorbs the shampoo unevenly, leading to patchy results. Instead of achieving a uniform tone, you could end up with inconsistent color, making it a method best avoided.

Do you use conditioner after purple shampoo?
Yes, it's recommended to use conditioner after purple shampoo. To maximize the toning effect, let the purple shampoo sit for 2-5 minutes before rinsing. Following up with conditioner helps restore moisture and keeps your hair soft, smooth, and hydrated after the toning treatment.

Remember, always apply it to wet hair to avoid patchy results and follow up with a good conditioner to keep your hair healthy. And if you’re looking to make a positive impact on both your hair and the environment, the Parrotfish Purple Shampoo and Conditioner are a fantastic choice. With the right products and a little know-how, you can keep your hair looking its best while also doing your part for the planet.

Actually Works!

This is the only purple Shampoo I have tried that’s actually able to lighten my hair! I have thick hair in a darker blonde color, and normally after using purple shampoo it looks the same as before. With this one, my hair stylist noticed my hair was lighter, and I didn’t even bring it up! And yes, I follow instructions!

Great product

I color my hair and have tried many products that deal with toning down the orange, but nothing has worked as well as the purple bars for shampoo and conditioner. My hair has never looked or felt better. I love this product.
